Crane Festival - 07 Days

Autumn is a festive and colorful season in Bhutan. November is Phobjikha is no exception; international guests, national spectators and locals gather together to celebrate the Crane Festival – a unique celebration in honor of the endangered Black Necked Cranes that roost in the valley in the winter. Join us to explore the wholesomeness of Phobjib culture and festivity!

Day 1
Arrival in Paro: Bhutan

Your first day in the Land of Happiness! Touch down in Paro International – a n airport surrounded by mountains where only a few pilots in the world are qualified to land. Feel the adrenaline rush as your plane snakes its way between the mountains. Travel to Thimphu, and spend the remaining day exploring the past and present of Thimphu. Traditional welcome dinner with ema datshi and red rice.

Day 2
Thimphu to Phobjikha

Revel in the flamboyant and holy dances performed by monks donning masks of beasts, gods and deities. It is the most colorful time of the year for Thimphu as locals come in their Tshechu Best and the town center is literally colorised by makeshift stores and fun parks. You cannot miss anything – the fun, the food or the feels.

Day 3
Phobjikha at Leisure

In the morning, we will visit Gangtey Monastery where the Crane Festival takes place. It is arguably the most entertaining festival in the locality during which local men and women, students and monks join in dancing, fun competitions and general laughter. Locals are again dressed in their best and the whole Gangtey hillock teems with make-shift stores and people. In the afternoon, we will make our way towards the beautiful upper dales where you will spend the night at a farmhouse.

Day 4
Phobjikha to Punakha

Make your way towards the historic capital of Bhutan. We will visit the Palace of Great Bliss and swing by the Pochhu suspension river. You will also be able to experience unique local lifestyle by visiting a farmhouse to see how they make local delicacies, tea or crafts. You can also enjoy enjoy white-water rafting, if you are in for the adrenaline-rush.

Day 5
Punakha to Paro

Travel back to the fertile valley of Paro where there are a lot many interesting things waiting in hold for you.Detour in Thimphu for lunch and a brief stroll is time permits. Before hiking up to Taktshang, it is imperative that you visit the National Museum of Bhutan, the ruins of Drugyal Fortress and Kyichu Temple – the oldest in Bhutan.

Day 6
Paro

Hike up to Paro Taktshang – the iconic Tiger’s Nest in the morning. Visit the history-rich Ta Dzong where the National Museum of Bhutan is housed. Museum galleries are well curated to show the history, arts, culture and tradition of the Kingdom of Bhutan.

Day 7
Adieu, Bhutan!

In the morning, our guide will take you to the airport for your departure.
